Suzhou is my hometown. This beautiful city is in Jiangsu Province. 1 it is not as big as Beijing, everyone in China knows this beautiful place. People 2 it as "Venice of the East (东方威尼斯)".
Suzhou has a long history. There are many ancient Chinese3 in Suzhou. Now, these beautiful gardens are becoming famous tourist places in Suzhou.
In the past 30 years my hometown has4 rapidly in many ways. The biggest change I have found is the5. On the one hand, many people here don't live in the 6 houses anymore. They have moved into the new high buildings and are enjoying a comfortable life. On the other hand, nowadays builders have 7 thousands of modern buildings of different styles (类型). I think this change is 8 because it has made Suzhou become more modern and more beautiful.

A little girl had a doll. She loved it so much that she would treat it with great care, even though her friends would laugh at her for being so careful.
As time passed, the girl grew up, moved houses, became an adult, got married, had children, and finally became a lovely little old woman with many grandchildren.
One day, she returned to her hometown, found her original house, and went in. Among hundreds of old things, she found her doll. It was as well looked after as before. She took it home with her and gave it to her granddaughter. Her granddaughter loved it.
Each time the old woman saw her granddaughter play with the doll, tears (眼泪) of joy would roll down her cheeks (脸颊). She was so glad to see that it was in the hands of her granddaughter.
My hometown is different from what it looked like before. To be honest, it is more beautiful than before. Ten years ago, it used to be a poor village. There was only one mountain path (小路) to go there. People lived in low strawthatched cottages (破草房). Now my hometown has changed a lot since our government helped us. So it's convenient to go in and out of our hometown. Also, we have built some schools so that the children can receive a good education. As people have made more money by working in the cities, or planting more economic crops (经济作物). All the villagers are living in new houses, some even in large buildings. There is a beautiful park in our town. Every day, after dinner people would like to go to the park to enjoy themselves. We are living a happy life now.

Liu Tuchi, an 87yearold man, has given away thousands of books to kids in five villages in Southwest China and built some reading rooms in the past 13 years by collecting and selling rubbish.
"After selling the rubbish, I go to bookstores to search for good books," Liu said. When he has enough books, he sends them to the kids in the villages.
Liu was an officer in Sichuan Province before retiring (退休) in 1993. "I passed by a primary school in Qilong Village in 2005 and was shocked by the poor conditions," he said. With old classrooms and broken desks, the students hardly had any books. So Liu took out more than 5, 000 yuan and raised more than 8, 000 yuan from his family and friends to give away books to the school. Since then, he has kept on giving away books to rural (农村的) kids.
Liu's work has opened his new lifestyle (生活方式). He collects and sells waste, such as bottles and old newspapers. In 2008, Liu started building reading rooms. So far he has built more than 15 reading rooms. Liu always says, "Children in rural areas should not be left behind, especially in education."
Do you have any special memories that you still remember when you grow up? Actually, there are a few memories in our (child) that will stay with us forever. Some that seemed so terrible at that time may make us (smile) years later.
One such memory is a phone call I got I was about four years old. My mother took part in a competition on a radio show. Competitors would tell interesting story about their children and the (win) would get a phone call from Mr. Santa Claus who worked at the radio station. Mr. Santa Claus would give the winner's child some gifts.
When the call came, Mom talked to Mr. Santa Claus (one) and then she gave me the phone. At that time, Mom had told Mr. Santa Claus that I (draw) on a wall with crayons. Then Mr. Santa Claus asked me about my art work the phone. I regarded that man as the real Santa Claus, so I threw down the and ran crying out of the room. Santa Claus would know that I had been bad!
However, I did get two soft (toy) from the radio station. And I guessed Santa Claus didn't find out about the wall. Maybe he did but just forgot about it.
